10 Things I’ve Learned About My Pet Rabbit

I’ve learned a lot about pet rabbits in the last year!!

Not just my pet bun bun Dasher….but rabbits in general

However, for now I’ll just stick to the secret life of The Dash Man!!

1. He’s sooo cute, but he’s sooo naughty! He wants to chew on everything, and he pretty much has! Within the first 20 minutes of his first day home, he almost chewed through the cable cord to our entertainment center!!!  Oh my goodness! My husband was ready to make rabbit stew for dinner!!  Not funny!! Thank goodness we caught him in time-Naughty!!

2. Dasher the Christmas Bunny.

…..wait a second……His name has nothing to do with Christmas like I thought it did.  His name is Dasher because that little guy can dash!  He runs like crazy!  We let him run around whenever we are home.  The floors are wood, so when he runs his little feet slide all over! It’s pretty hilarious to watch!!

3.  He wants to chew on everything!

4. He loves vegetables, apples, and bananas.  I call them “nannas” he loves his nannas!!

5. I was told bunnies were afraid of cats, so we needed to be careful.  But this little dude is fearless!  Grizzabella swats him all the time. It doesn’t seem to phase him. He just gives his head a little shake and goes about his business.  Sometimes he just charges right back and sticks his nose right in her face-he’s no sissy!!

Hide and Go seek-oh no! She saw my foot!!

6.  He likes to chew! But he has learned that when I sternly say, “No Chew”  he knows he’s in trouble.  In fact when I shout, “No Chew” he does a quick jerk of his head, and his ears perk up.  Sometimes it’s followed by a quick dash in another direction or a hop and kick of the back legs like a bucking bull.

However, sometimes it’s just followed by more chewing…

My husband is a firefighter, hence the antique fire hydrant in the house….good thing we don’t have a dog!!!

7.  He actually plays chase with Grizzabella!  They’ve kind of become buddies!!  They love to chase each other around the house.  And when they are tired of running they will just sit and stare at one another.  It cracks me up!!

8.  Did I mention he likes to chew on everything?

9.  I can give him a time out and it works………for a little bit.  He hates time out! Time out means he has to sit locked up in his cage for 10 minutes.  We have a little area reserved in the garage where he can run and be free so he never really has to be caged.  However, during time out-he’s locked up and he hates it!!  He fiercely chews on the cage and bucks his body like a bull dashing back and forth until he is free!!  He then behaves…..

for a few hours…..hmmmmm

10He absolutely looooves to poop in the same spot. I guess all bunnies are kind of like this. They pick one spot to go to the bathroom. Thankfully he’s really a good little boy in this area. I never have to clean up accidents in the house. See? He can be a good boy!

He used to like to just go in his cage. But now, his favorite spot is the guest bathroom where his sissy’s litter box is.  His sissy is our cat Grizzabella.  Now he doesn’t go in her box……..he just likes to poop on the floor next to it. I guess he figures if it’s her bathroom it must be his too.  I swear he holds it all night.  First thing in the morning he goes running in there and just poops everywhere!  It’s really hilarious.

The rest???? To be continued…….

One year later I’m still learning more about this little dude…..and rabbits in general

Verdict?? I love my pet bun bun to pieces
