I love Halloween! It’s always been the most popular holiday in my family. We love dressing up, scaring trick-or-treaters (and each other), eating candy, and watching the infamous Halloween horror series over and over!
(For me personally, it’s also the time I get to pull out the cozy sweaters, bake pumpkin bread, and drink pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks.)
When we were little my dad made a white ghost mask out of an old towel for our cock-a-poo Gus. He was all black so the ghost mask was perfect. That mask was then passed down to future dogs. Our black English spaniel Winston, our dear black lab Brodie (we called him Brodie Wodie), and our German shepherd Jackson. The dogs were never too crazy about that mask, but they put up with it. I think they were proud to walk around the neighborhood with their family and get dog bones from the neighbors!
When my parents moved to Oregon, they moved into a neighborhood that was popular with trick-or-treaters ($100 worth of Halloween candy popular!). Because of all the kids flocking to their house, my family decided it was time to re-vamp Halloween again. My brother Sam dressed as a pirate and recited funny and scary rhymes about pirates and treasure. He ended up becoming a legend! For eight years in a row, he stood on the corner of the street as Captain Morgan, reciting his infamous rhymes and jokes. Adults and kids alike loved the pirate. In fact, one year, a group of people congregated in front of the house chanting “we want the pirate! we want the pirate!”
Those Halloween nights were the best. As Sam scared the little trick-or-treaters with his ghoulish pirate facade, my other brother Ben wore a Michael Myers mask and walked around the neighborhood scaring all the teenagers. The best scares were the teenage boys who pretended to be tough and unafraid. Their high-pitched screams filled the night air as Ben chased them down the street! HaHa, gosh we had fun!
My mom and I were the good witches who sat at the doorstep and handed out candy. We were there to soften the scariness for the little ones and assure them that they were brave enough to walk the plank and retrieve their candy treasure! Arrgh!!
The last year Sam was the pirate he dressed our dog Jackson up as one as well. Jackson had a hat, shirt, and even a belt with a dagger. He was so cute, but he hated it! All night Jackson tried taking his costume off! Poor guy, we made him stay in it the whole time. Then, as the clock struck nine, we took it off and rewarded him with some pizza (or wizza as we call it).
If you are having a bad day, as I was yesterday, there is no better, faster way to lighten your heart. If you want to cheer up, look up dog and cat Halloween costumes on the internet! Oh my goodness, total cuteness! I smiled immediately and laughed at these creative, silly costumes!
According to USA Today, the National Retail Federation estimates that “29 million pet lovers will dress their fur babies up this Halloween.” I believe it! In fact, spending on pet costumes is increasing year after year. This year, total planned spending for pet costumes comes in at $490 million! Want to know what these cute cuddly monsters will be dressed up as? According to the National Retail Federation, the most popular pet costumes this year are pumpkins, hot dogs, and superheroes.
After some of my own research, I narrowed down five of my favorite pet costumes for 2019. Chewy.com had the cutest options so Chewy is the site I used for my choices. However, there are many great options as well through PetSmart and Amazon.

I am not a huge Star Wars fan, but this costume is just too much with the Princess Leia buns! LOL
Hope these pet costumes put some ideas in your head for dressing up your very own furry babies this year!! I know they have for me! However, I don’t think Grizzabella likes this post very much–she’s not a huge fan of dressing up!!
I have been avoiding this blog post for the last three weeks…however, with…
