It’s been a while since Mom let me write a blog post! I’ve been asking for many months now and she finally caved. I guess when you are as cool and studly as I am it’s hard to say no. Right, Mom?

And boy, am I excited at this chance!

I have a very specific topic I want to address today. If you own a rabbit, then this information won’t be anything new. However, if you are considering owning a future pet bun bun and you are not sure how much it will cost, then listen up! Because The Dash Man is here to give you a few tips!

How expensive is it to own a pet rabbit?

Although we bun buns are fluffy and irresistibly cute ( way more than cats )

According to my expertise, despite hidden and obvious costs, we bunnies make great pets and we are worth the financial investment. After all the money spent, we are an investment of love and cuteness hopping around your house, looking adorable while eating carrots, and chewing on your furniture… ( oops! didn’t mean to say that! )

How Much Do We Cost?

-First off, to adopt us we only cost about $15.00. That’s what my parents paid for me! Pretty cheap in my book!

-However, just because we are small, that doesn’t mean we are easy to take care of. After I was adopted my parents had to buy all the needed supplies for my care.  Here’s a list of what they bought:

Cage

Bedding

Water bottle

Timothy Hay

Pellets

Toys

Treats

Food bowls

What are the health care costs?

-Luckily for my parents but unfortunately for me, I was neutered at the shelter that found me. I guess this is good because we male bunnies can be quite stinky and messy if we don’t get neutered…apparently…Or, if you have a female bunny, she will need to be spayed. This can cost anywhere from $125 to $250

-But aside from that procedure, ( which we won’t bring up anymore ), it is important to keep a stash of cash to take your bunny to the vet for check-ups and possible health issues. Bun buns are prone to gastrointestinal and respiratory problems. Also, sometimes our strong teeth need trims from time to time. So just keep those things in mind for down the road.

Unforeseen Costs:

This one starts to make my mom’s blood boil…

So I’m going to say this once and say it fast…

-Furniture, electrical, and house repairs: due to chewing on furniture, household items, and electrical cords.

-Keeping your house at a moderate temperature is important for bunnies in the summer. Bunnies can overheat very easily. So naturally, this could make your utility bill a little pricey.

How Long Can Rabbits Live?

-Apparently, we can live up to 10 years!!!!  That’s what I’m shooting for!  I hope I ( The Dash Man ) have a long healthy life. And I wish you and your bun bun a happy healthy life as well!
