In a previous post, I wrote 10 things I had learned about my pet rabbit. Well, my pet cat Grizzabella caught wind of it and she’s been haughtily walking around the house ever since. Now, that is just typical cat behavior at times, however, Grizzabella still deserves a little bit of the limelight too-Dash Man understands.
I think he supports anything that will make him less of a target for jealous cat rage.
Such a cat! She’ll rub against my leg, my arm, meow, and squawk for attention!
Next, she’ll settle into her cuddle position on the couch or bed. I will pet her, give her rubs….and just at the moment when she seems like she is in total bliss-Bam!! Ouch!! I get a huge swat!! Claws extended, followed by a bite! Ouch!! It hurts!! I then say, “Hey! be nice!” which is followed by a disgustful look of “What?” ( I get the same look she gives the rabbit-not sure what that means!)
I’ve learned that about 3 good long strokes on the back and 3 neck scratches suffice.
Any more than that, pet at your own risk!!
This is very important for a cat!! Where, when, and how. Grizzabella’s no exception. She’s lived in 3 different houses with me. And in each one she finds her special spots. The first one is the grey couch. The couch is used for sleep, snuggling with Mom, and cleaning. Next is the bed, right next to my head. I love this one! She gets really snuggly and even lays her little paw on my face in a sweet, affectionate manner. It’s very endearing. Also, when Dad is at the fire station, his pillow works well too! haha ha…… !!! One more spot is my laptop. Whether I’m on the couch or table, she wants to sit right on it-completely blocking anything I’m doing.
Once again, demanding my attention!
I kind of love this one too. When she’s trying to find the right position on my lap or back. She kneads her little paws into my body. The kneading can go on for a while but I think it’s kind of sweet. Right now, in fact, she’s making biscuits on my lap- ready to take over my writing position. I heard recently on a morning show that making biscuits means that cats were taken from their mothers a little too soon. That broke my heart! Grizzabella has always been a little on the needy side and does this biscuit motion regularly. Dear little thing!! That kind of explained a lot.
You make biscuits all you want Grizzy!!
In our first year together she went through a terrible phase where she had a UTI. I didn’t know cats could get those. Thank goodness I had a wonderful veterinarian. She put her on some antibiotics and a special diet. It went away. I thought she was okay and I started to feed her different food again. Unfortunately, the UTI came back with a vengeance! My veterinarian said Grizzy would consistently need a urinary based diet.
We put her on Royal Canin urinary/calm. It’s a really great brand, ( a brand you actually even need a prescription for). It was a lifesaver. She ate it for a solid 2 1/2 years and never had any issues. But like some cats, she won’t eat it anymore. Which leads me to my next point:
Thankfully I found some other brands of food that are specific to urinary health.
Purina Pro Plan and Science Diet have good options and she loves them. Most importantly, they keep her clean and UTI free!
I love this too!! And for the most part, she is only snuggly with me. Which I have to admit I love- I love being the human whom she directs her affections and loyalties to!
I worked at an elementary school for 2 1/2 years. Translation- I was constantly sick!! Colds, flu….you name it! Grizzy loooves when I’m sick in bed. She’s in heaven when I’m in bed all day.
She lays by my side, sleeping all day in absolute total bliss!!
Grizzy completely guilts me when I’m getting ready to leave-she knows!!!! If I’m packing an overnight bag because I’m going out of town for a gig, she sits and stares-stares until I feel soooo guilty. And now, in our new house she sits on the ledge of the stairs and watches my every move as I’m heading out the door.
Oh Grizzy!! You make me feel so bad!!!
Even though she swats him when he gets in her face or gets too much attention. I can tell he’s a real comfort to her. They hang out, and sometimes she goes down to his room where his cage is and scratches on the door wanting him to come out. Maybe it’s just so she can stalk him.
In fact, that’s probably what it is….well…….at least she’s not bored!!
Like many cats- she loves to sit in the windows and watch the birds. Absolutely loves it! We have an upstairs porch and now her favorite thing is to constantly scratch the sliding door meowing until we let her out. As I watch her out there, her eyes will wildly dart back and forth, and her tail will twitch with excitement!!!!!
One of these days she’s going to get one of them birdies! Go get em Grizz!!!
I love you Grizzabella!!
My Little Boo!!
