Dogs On The Beach Part 3: 7 Dog Friendly Beaches On The Central Oregon Coast

I Love The Ocean!!!!

So it’s no surprise that I love living on The Oregon Coast. My husband and I moved here in January for his job. Although I’ve missed Southern Oregon, so far it’s been a fun adventure and a great place to start our new journey!

In my opinion, the Oregon Coast is one of the most scenic beautiful coastlines you’ll ever see!  Granted, I’ve been to some gorgeous exotic beaches in places such as The Caribbean, The Cook Islands, and even Southern California where I grew up. Those beaches are sunny, tropical, and warm!!

However, if you want a suntan, and warm water, the Oregon ocean may not be your cup of tea..lol.

There’s the beach, and then there is the coast.  Oregon is the coast!

Lol… so if you don’t mind bundling up, then I promise you won’t be missing out by visiting this beautiful stretch of scenic coastline.

There is so much beauty to behold, and you won’t run into huge crowds or gridlock traffic!  I love California, but a few miles can sometimes take a few hours! Bumper to bumper cars, and zero parking-Geez!! By the time you hit the beach, you can feel frustrated, irritated, and anything but relaxed.  Also, it’s really hard to find a dog-friendly beach.

There are just too many people.

Not in Oregon!

Like I’ve said in my previous post Dogs on the Beach Part 1, dogs are everywhere! Since the beaches are never too crowded, dogs can run freely for miles! Since I don’t have a dog of my own yet, I love watching the dogs run free and happy.  Barking, chasing seagulls, running in the surf, and bumming food from couples trying to have a romantic picnic!! Lol…I love it!

We plan on adopting a dog in the future!!!  So I’ve been scoping out the beaches that I would like to take our future pup to be!

We live on the central Oregon coast in Lincoln County.

Here are my personal recommendations for this area. It’s important to note that as my husband and I continue to explore the rest of the coastline, I will post more recommendations for other dog-friendly beaches. But for now, I’m keeping my list to Lincoln County and south Tillamook County.

Get those leashes ready!! Here we go!!!!

  1. Agate Beach, Newport– Great flat stretch of sand with a stunning view of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse.  First time I walked this beach I watched a dog go crazy running after a seagull flying above him!!!  He was having a ball!!

  2. Nye Beach, Newport-I know this has nothing to do with dogs, but Nye Beach has great restaurants, cafes, and shops-it’s one of my favorite little spots to hang out for a day! And of course, it’s a great beach to take your dog to.  With a long wide flat stretch of sand-you and your pup will be happy!
  3. Gleneden Beach-I am partial to Gleneden because this is our beach!  We are lucky enough to live three blocks from this serene quiet escape!!  Gleneden is a few minutes north of Depoe Bay and just south of Lincoln City.  Every day when I go for my walk I see paw prints in the sand, and dogs having the time of their lives.  Here are our neighbors Gwen and Lucci-just ask them what they think!

    We Love Gleneden Beach!
  4. Driftwood Beach, Seal Rock-My husband and I discovered this state beach just the other day. It was the Saturday of spring break and town was a little too busy for us, so we decided to explore some new scenery. We headed south of Newport and found Driftwood. Aaaaahhhhh! Quiet, scenic, and soft warm sand. Just a few people and their dogs. I hope this will be a beach we frequent when we get our little guy!!

  5. Nelscott District Beach, Lincoln City-Located in the southern part of Lincoln City this beach is great for dogs.  You can stroll down to the southern tip below the bluff of the massive Inn at Spanish Head. There you will find where some of the Siletz Bay runs into the Pacific. You will also find local surfers and cute beach houses lining this charming beach neighborhood.
  6. Roads End State Beach, Lincoln City-I just recently discovered this area.  Located on the northern

tip of Lincoln City, it is another dog-friendly and yes- a beautiful stretch of the beach!!  If you head north you have a view of God’s Thumb -a popular hiking trail that takes the traveler out on a point with breathless views of the Lincoln City coastline. I have yet to hike it, but it’s on my local adventure to do list! My dog to be will like Road’s End-I know it!!!

  7. Cape Kiwanda, Pacific City-Pacific City quickly became one of our favorite beaches here! It’s in the southern part of Tillamook County, and it’s stunning!!  Not only will your furry kids love it, but your real kids will also enjoy it! It’s a very family friendly beach!!  Surfers, campfires, rocks and sand dunes to climb, and a stunning view of Haystack Rock !! * (I thought the only Haystack Rock was in Cannon Beach – The one from Goonies.  But I just learned there are three Haystack Rocks in Oregon)*

I hope I’ve sparked your interest and desire to visit our lovely coastline here in Oregon!!

Believe me when I say your dogs will love it and they will love you for taking them here!!!!
