Goodbye Little Buddy…

I have been avoiding this blog post for the last three weeks…however, with a heavy heart, it is time to share this sad news with all of you wonderful readers and fans of the Dash Man.

On Friday, May 7th, our darling bunny Dasher left us and went to bunny heaven. We did all we could to save him but he took a turn for the worse so quickly. He was such a sick little boy. Thankfully, we were able to go into the hospital and say goodbye and hold him as we put him to sleep.  We are heartbroken. I just cried and cried and gave him kisses. We loved that little guy so much. He was more than an ordinary bunny. He roamed free and had the cutest personality. It feels so lonely without him.

He was my little pal. I miss our little routines. Every morning I would wake up and walk downstairs to give him a biscuit and let him out of his room. His head would be right at the door and he would charge out into the hallway. He would then follow me upstairs for his morning veggies and a run around the porch. I miss watching him do his ninja moves around the carpet and then flop.

He always tried to give his sister Grizzabella loves. of course, that would always result in his sweet sissy swatting him on the head. He never learned. He just wanted to show her he loved her. I miss sitting on the couch and feeling his little head nudge my foot. That meant he wanted some attention and head rubs… Oh, how I miss him.

The morning of his last day on earth, he was so ill and we were worried he wasn’t even going to make it to the hospital. He could hardly move, wouldn’t eat, poop, or pee, or eat anything. We could tell he was in pain because we could hear him grinding his teeth. Dear little baby. But despite his pain and current condition, he managed to hobble/hop over to the porch for one last jaunt outside. The sun was shining and the ocean breeze was blowing his little mohawk in the wind. I watched him as he gazed down over the street and I knew this might be his last time on the porch. I think he knew too. and that’s why he mustered the strength to have one last little hop around his porch that he loved. Dasher loved feeling the wind from the ocean.

I love that little guy so much, and there is a hole in our house and hearts without him. He was one of a kind. Grizzabella misses him too. She will go downstairs sometimes and scratch on his door and meow, wandering where her little brother is…

When it’s a nice day, I go and sit by his little grave where he is burrowed in the earth (as a bunny should be). I sing him all the silly songs I made up throughout his time with us.

Dasher was a happy little guy who loved to hop, run, eat veggies, chew, and snuggle.  He was as dear as they come.

Goodbye, old pal, I will always love you and I will never forget you…

Right now I hope you are at peace and dashing around getting into trouble and eating loads of cilantro and carrots. I love you so much, Dasher. Miss you buddy…
