SOME GOOD NEWS!! Mystery Pig Found on Downtown Portland’s Eastbank Esplanade

BREAKING STORY!!!

Pig found on downtown Portland’s Eastbank Esplanade in Waterfront Park!

A Pig you ask?  What??? How on earth did a pig end up in downtown Portland?

Well before we discuss this mystery, let’s go back a few weeks when all hell broke loose in cities across America. Portland, one of the most political cities in our country, was no exception. When protests began they were quickly followed and hijacked by mass violence: looting, rioting, beatings, fires, and destruction. A heartbreaking sight to see when so many businesses are already struggling due to the COVID-19 lockdown issued by Governor Kate Brown.  Now on top of everything else they have had their businesses ransacked and destroyed. And sadly our Governor hasn’t said or done much to stop the violence or support these poor businesses.

So for what it’s worth, I want to say…

Those people in Oregon whose businesses have been ruined by the recent riots, my heart goes out to you and my thoughts and prayers are with you!!

If anyone is interested in helping the businesses affected by riots in Portland there is a GoFundMe page where you can make a donation.

Now for Some Good News…

Betty the Pig

Well…amongst all this heartache some good people managed to come together and rescue one defenseless creature.

A large pig sleeping on the Eastbank Esplanade in downtown Portland was found by some of the protesters. In fact, the pig was with a man who said he was going to cut its head off and sacrifice the pig to end police brutality!!

Horrible!! What a lunatic!

Thankfully, the people talked this crazy man out of it and when he left, they took care of the pig. They covered her in coats and blankets to keep her warm until help could arrive.

Animal activist Mary MacDonald-Lewis was called and when she arrived she said, “the pig was acting very stressed and couldn’t stop shaking.” She tried calling for help but the Multnomah County Animal Shelter wasn’t able to help due to the fact that they didn’t have a rig. Then she reached out to the police and firefighters who were too busy that night due to the violence that broke out in the city.

Mary and her daughter Sue decided to spend the night with the terrified pig. They used their cars and a wall to form a pig pen so she could sleep safely that night. Despite the danger in downtown these two brave souls watched over this dear animal and kept her safe!!!

On Sunday morning police were finally able to respond. When police arrived they named her Betty! Thankfully one police officer on the scene, Brian Pelster,  had a friend with a nearby farm and animal sanctuary. His friend agreed to take Betty and give her a new home!

In fact–Officer Pelster did the honors of giving Betty a ride to her new home!! Here are the pictures from Twitter that were posted of Betty!!

What a good-looker!!!

Betty looks like she enjoyed the ride!

Office Pelster took to Facebook to share the experience and said this:

” SAV’N LIVES…ONE HOG AT A TIME!!!” “Last night’s nut jobs decided they were going to sacrifice a pig at the protest and cut it’s head off. PPB said HELL NO and took custody of the little lady.”

That’s right! And it sounds like they found a good home for this “little lady.”

According to Mary Mac-Donald-Lewis, Betty is happy and making friends with other pigs and animals on the farm.

“It’s a happy story during a sad time, with protesters, cops, and me uniting to help an innocent pig to safety and sanctuary,” McDonald-Lewis said.

I am so happy for Betty!

I just want to personally thank those people who bravely stood up for Betty! And thank you Mary, Sue, and the Portland Police for finding Betty a new home!

It was great to read such good news during this tragic time.

And I sure hope Betty continues to have a long and happy life!!

We wish you the best girl!!
