Seriously?…not me!! Who would dare to say such a thing! As far as I’m concerned, pets are most definitely, without a doubt, absolutely family!! True, they are the furry kind, and sometimes messy-but I adore them! I love my little pets! I’ve always loved my pets since I was a little one myself. For any of you who feel the same, and are reading this, now is the time to nod your head in agreement, give your little pets a scratch on the back or a treat!! We love our furry family members, and it’s important to give them the same amount of love they give us.
I grew up as the youngest girl with three older brothers. My dad was the ultimate animal lover so we were lucky to always have dogs and cats running around the house. Most of those pets were male. So needless to say my mom and I were outnumbered. While at times I tired of my older brothers (what little sister wouldn’t) I never tired of my little furry brothers. They were always there for me! I loved all of them to pieces….(okay I loved the big ones too…we’ll just keep that between us though…lol )
And boy! were they ever!!! We’ve had so many funny moments and memories surrounding our pets. Growing up they were referred to as “the boys”. We all had a special relationship with “the boys”. When the time came for us to eventually leave home for college and jobs- we all missed the boys terribly. My favorite letters from home included pictures of the boys with funny captions. In fact, my family used to joke that the pets were what kept us coming back home to visit!
There are many things in life that keep families glued together. I think the pets were our glue! That might sound ridiculous, but in the harsh day to day reality of family life (all the trials, fights, and fun times) the pets were in the center of it all- bringing comfort, warmth, laughter, and love when sometimes nothing else could. They were part of the family-no doubt about it!
Through stories and pictures on this blog, I hope to share the joy that pets have brought to my life and can bring to yours. My dad always said:
“Discipline your children, and spoil your pets!”
